The non-separable inner ring and roller assembly is called the cone, and the outer ring is called the cup. 116. Self-aligning ball bearings

The self-aligning ball bearing was invented by SKF. It has two rows of balls and a common concave sphered raceway in the outer ring. The bearing is consequently self-aligning and insensitive to angular misalignments of the shaft relative to the housing. It is particularly suitable for applications where considerable shaft deflections or misalignment are to be expected. Y-bearings with an eccentric locking collar are intended primarily for use in applications where the direction of rotation is constant. On one side of the bearing inner ring is an eccentric extension that fits the locking collar. Single row deep groove ball bearings with filling slots have a filling slot in both the inner and outer ring enabling more and larger balls to be incorporated than in standard deep groove ball bearings.
